EXCEL Alaska’s specialty sessions are designed to give participants hands-on training and experience in a career field in which they are interested, allow them to apply what they learn in the classroom to solve real-life problems or prepare for post-secondary education opportunities.

Academic Decathlon and Personal Finance Fair
Competition in Math, Science, Speech, Essay, Social Studies, Keyboarding, Constructive Engineering, Super Quiz, and other fun academic activities.

Math Science Expedition
Students study real life math and science on a 10-day rafting trip down the Aniak River.

Introduction to Aviation
Students will learn key aviation foundation concepts, complete a discovery flight and an instrument instruction course and have the opportunity to tour UAA’s Aviation program and local businesses in the aviation industry.

EXCEL Ground School
Participants in Ground School will complete a 30-day camp where they will have the opportunity to complete 4 hours of logged flight time, receive Ground School instruction, become endorsed to take the FAA written exam and have the opportunity to earn their Student Pilot Certificate.

Post-Secondary Prep and Credit Recovery
This session is designed to give 11th and 12th grade students the extra help they might need in either Math or Language Arts to graduate from high school, as well as prepare student for post-secondary entrance exams.

Driver’s Education
Students will prepare to pass their driving test to earn a driver’s license. Once students have completed the course, they will have the opportunity to take their road test with the DMV.

Industry Boot Camp
Students will have the opportunity to take courses and tests to earn certificates necessary for a career in a variety of Alaska’s industries.
